How Much Does Gym Marketing Cost?

Straight numbers from live gym ad accounts — what it actually costs to book an appointment and sign a member, with nothing hidden.

"How much does gym marketing cost?" is the question every owner wants answered and almost no agency will answer plainly. So here are the real figures from ad accounts I run, not made-up averages.

Cost per booked appointment

Across two client ad accounts, a booked appointment has cost between $8.20 and $22.39. Blended, that's an average of $16.79 per appointment across 322 appointments and $5,407 of ad spend. Where you land in that range depends on your city, your offer, and how competitive your market is.

What that means per month

At 60 to 70 appointments a month, that works out to roughly $1,000 to $1,200 in ad spend. Those appointments turn into 25 to 30 people through the door, and at an 85 to 90% close rate that's a healthy run of new members every month.

Cost per new member

Do the math on the funnel and the ad cost lands near $40 to $55 per new member, before management fees. For a gym with a membership worth hundreds or thousands over its lifetime, that's one of the best returns in the business — you're paying tens of dollars to acquire a member worth many multiples of that.

The three costs to plan for

  • Ad spend — paid directly to Meta/Google. Roughly $1,000–$1,200/month at the volumes above. You own the ad account.
  • Management — the fee to build, run, and optimize the whole system so you never touch it. This depends on your market and goals.
  • Your time on the close — the one part you keep, because members sign with you, not an ad.

Is there a minimum?

Yes. There's a minimum budget based on your market size and membership price — too little spend and there isn't enough data to optimize. The honest way to know your numbers is to look at your specific market, membership value, and goals together, which is exactly what a discovery call is for.

Common questions

How much does gym marketing cost per month?
At 60 to 70 qualified appointments a month, ad spend works out to roughly $1,000 to $1,200. On top of that there is a management fee to build and run the system, which depends on your market and your goals. The ad account stays yours.
What does it cost to get one new gym member?
Roughly $40 to $55 in ad spend per new member, before management fees. That comes from a blended $16.79 per booked appointment, 25 to 30 of every 60 to 70 appointments showing up, and 85 to 90 percent of those who show up joining when the owner runs the sales process.
Why is cost per appointment a range rather than one number?
Because every campaign is built around a different offer, city, demographic and price point. Across two client ad accounts the cost per booked appointment ranged from $8.20 to $22.39. A template would produce one number and it would be wrong for almost everybody.
Is there a minimum ad budget to make gym marketing work?
Yes. The minimum depends on the size of your market and what your membership costs. Too little spend and you cannot reach enough of the right people to produce a consistent calendar. Exact numbers are worked out on the discovery call against your figures.
